The original Osaki 4000 was the model that launched the Osaki brand and was a big part in what propelled them to their extraordinary success.  The 4000T was the update from this model, and has continued the legacy of the original.  Today the 4000T is towards the end of its life cycle, but has maintained its status as the #1 volume massage chair in Osaki's lineup.  The name recognition and unique controller that comes with the chair have ensured Osaki's continued dominance of massage chair distribution in the US.

The real question for the Osaki 4000-T is how does the massage and features stack up against newer designs and models that both Osaki has released and knock off brands now have available?  The 4000-T is a value priced chair, and within its price range, we personally feel better value can be found from Ootori's S8 or if you take a small step up the Cozzia 357.  The controller on the 4000-T is superior to other controllers in this price range, and while this is an older model it still gives an exceptional massage.  It is also worth noting that the latest version of the 4000 series has been released recently by Osaki the Osaki 4000-XT.

 The Osaki 4000T provides a more traditional S track massage.  This means that the massage track will run from your neck and shoulder downs down into your lower back.  While this chair is not an L track design, it makes up for this in the strength of the massage.  A true S track design or more recent S+L track designs match the contours of your spine and ensure that you are getting targeted support across the entire contour of your back.  While this is fairly commonplace in massage chairs today, this was a major innovation when the Osaki 4000T came out.

Another area that Osaki innovated with this chair is the combination of different massage styles and being able to execute each of these styles of massage in all of the zero gravity positions.  We take this feature for granted now, but this is yet another feature innovated by this chair.  Osaki is known for a strong massage and this chair does not disappoint.  Each massage style has varying levels of intensity, and provides a deep tissue style massage that is very therapeutic.  The strong massage combined with the great price point of the chair gives it a 3 star rating.

The 4000T comes standard with full body scan technology, dual heated lumbar, reflexology foot rollers, and auto leg scan.  One of my favorite features on this chair is the auto leg scan, which frankly is hard to find in any other chair model even today.  The calf adjusts the position of the massage to ensure your legs are getting a perfectly tailored massage to your body type.  This feature combined with the auto body scan and detailed remote provide a great combination of technology features.  The body of the chair does look a little dated compared to newer and frankly sleeker models available.  We enjoyed the heated back, and found there was a distinct benefit to the dual heated lumbar as opposed to a single heat source. Many massage chairs, and especially massage chairs in this price range, offer only one set of reflexology rollers.  The 4000T offers two rollers providing better coverage across the bottom of your feet.  The foot rollers were strong without being over bearing, and the open toed design allowed for additional comfort for those with bigger feet.   The vibration massage on the bottom of the chair is nice, although this feature has been phased out in models that use an S+L track design.

I initially felt like the rollers were not quite strong enough on the chair.  The head of the rollers are bigger, and it felt like the massage rollers were pushing at my back more than giving me a massage.  That said, when I did the same massage in the zero gravity position the massage became distinctly better.  The kneading and shiatsu programs are the best out of the different massage styles.  I found the chair to provide an excellent massage and I certainly felt comfortable and relaxed.  I think the chair is showing its age a little bit here as many new chairs have taken leaps and bounds in the therapeutic benefits they provide.  This chair simply does not provide the lasting impact that some of the newer chairs offer through advanced auto programs, stretch, heat, and air compression.  I really could have used a better stretch program, improved foot massage, and better massage into my neck and shoulders.  If you are looking for a chair in this price range that provides a deeper tissue massage I would recommend the Osaki OS Pro Omni.

The Osaki 4000T has one of the most accessible and well known controllers in the industry.  Auto programs, positional controls, air compression, massage intensity and air intensity can all be controlled through the wide body controller.  In addition, the device comes with a convenient wireless remote you can use for easy in changes you'd like to make during an auto program.  This chair has significantly more options on the controller than other massage chairs in this price range.  The chair also has a two stage zero gravity position, and combining the different massage programs in each position helps provide a different massage every time.

The Osaki 4000T is a proven chair and has been on the market for a significant amount of time.  We have seen great feedback from customers, and defect rates compared to some less proven models are considerably lower.  This chair has worked out any kinks and chairs coming off the production line today offer a consistent experience for any consumer.  This chair will realistically last you 5-8 years with regular maintenance and upkeep.

The Osaki 4000T in many ways is the safest bet in the industry.  The chair presents an amazing value for the price, offers a variety of controls through its wide body controller, and most importantly gives a quality massage.  The chair is very relaxing, but does not have some of the longer term therapeutic benefits you will experience in newer models now available.  The chair also has a somewhat dated look compared to a more modern chair with a sleeker design.  Overall, we have found this chair to be a quality solution for our customers at a great price point.
