Hybrid mattresses have become a dominant force in popular mattress construction over the last several years. This technology combines the pressure relieving layers of foam with the supportive push back of a traditional coil system. Tempurpedic has tested different versions of this technology as far back as the early 2010's with mixed results. The new ProAdapt Medium Hybrid model takes all the new technology innovations that have made their most recent line so popular, and combined that with an advanced coil system that provides a different feel for those looking for more responsive support.
The first time we tested this model it was immediately clear this mattress would appeal to those customers that may like the idea of Tempurpedic, but prefer the traditional support of coils. As compared to the all foam ProAdapt Medium, the ProAdapt Medium Hybrid uses less foam layers to accommodate the coils on the bottom half of the bed. This change in construction makes the mattress slightly less ideal for side sleepers it has are less contouring layers in the bed. We did find it was easier to turn over in the bed, and the coils provided more responsiveness as you move around at night.
The ProAdapt Medium Hybrid has all the innovations you will find in the all foam ProAdapt options. These technology features include the cool to the touch cover made from a high molecular weight yarn, the dual cover SmartClimate system with integrated stretch knit second layer, and the high density APR (advanced pressure relieving) layers of Tempur material. The high density nature of the APR foams provide advanced pressure relief and improved conformance when lying down on the bed in any position. The Dynamic Support Coil System used in the Hybrid line utilize an integrated system of 1,000 coils the micro adjustment you expect from a Tempurpedic. Using a higher coil count with smaller barrels allows the mattress to adjust with a greater degree of complexity than other hybrid mattresses.
During testing, we noticed that the mattress had a one of a kind feel different than any other model in the lineup. It had a greater degree of conformance in the foam layers than the Adapt Medium, while providing better complexity in the feel of the bed due to the dual cover used in the ProAdapt line.
The combination of the high quality steel support structure found inside their coil system with the high density foam layers in the ProAdapt line creates a support structure unlike any other mattress we have tested. We found the mattress offered ideal support into the small of the lower back and into the neck and upper spine while testing in a back sleeping position. This mattress also provides enough support to accommodate a stomach sleeper, giving enough conformance while still providing proper support to prevent you from arching your back.
Tempurpedic is renowned for the life and durability of their beds. The new support structure used in the coil system of this line has not had the opportunity to stand the test of time. While we know Tempurpedic consistently uses high quality materials in the construction of their mattresses, it is left to be seen if the coil system will hold up as the foam layers have proven over time. A realistic expectation for the life of a Tempurpedic bed is in the range of 15 years. This is far beyond the average of most mattresses in the 6-9 year range. Tempurpedic gives you a 10 year warranty with the purchase and an industry leading 3/4 of an inch impression requirement to make a warranty claim.
The ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is in the middle of the price ranges of their 4 collections. While no Tempurpedic offers low price points as compared to their competitors, we have found that the value offered over the life of the mattress is 2nd to none. This value is reflected in the warranty of the bed, consistency of the feel over time, and most importantly in the improvement in your quality of sleep.
The combination of technology features, advanced and supportive coil system with the innovation of the cooling cover and dual cover SmartClimate system provide an integrated technology unique in the Tempurpedic line. We loved the way this mattress provided an ideal balance of contouring layers with the support of a traditional coil system refined for the Tempurpedic brand. The ProAdapt Medium Hybrid is a top pick and a great selection for those looking for an ideal balanced comfort with a more traditional feel.
